Donald Schonhoff Obituary

Donald E. Schonhoff, 66, a resident of Richardson, Texas, died Wednesday (May 11, 2011) after a courageous 17-year battle with stage four renal cell cancer.

Born Aug. 23, 1944, to Andrew Henry and Clara Wand Schonhoff, Don was born and raised in Quincy before settling his family in Texas.

Married on June 25, 1966, to Mary Josephine Kendall, Don was a graduate of Quincy College and Notre Dame Law School.

Don spent time with the FBI, before becoming a private investigator for more than 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout, an ordained minister, a Eucharistic minister for St. Mark's Catholic Church, a loving father and a faithful friend.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who have walked alongside of us for the past 17 years and the family and friends that have provided unwavering support.

Don has touched the lives of many people through his generosity and giving spirit. Those who witnessed his love for Jesus Christ were inspired by his unwavering faith and testimony of God's grace.

Don will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary; his brother, Richard D. Schonhoff (Lorraine Schonhoff); and his five children, Sarah Knight (Aaron Webb) of McKinney, Texas, Matt Schonhoff (Patty Schonhoff) of McKinney, Texas, Chris Schonhoff (Delaine Schonhoff) of Little Elm, Texas, Betsy Schonhoff of Austin, Texas, and Katie Schonhoff of Aledo, Texas. He also will be affectionately missed by his nine grandchildren, Ryan Schonhoff, Alison Schonhoff, Cody Schonhoff, Collin Schonhoff, Jackson Schonhoff, Kaitlyn Knight, Juliet Schonhoff, Mikayla Knight and Jefferson Schonhoff.

Matt, Ms Mary and the Schonoff Family,
I was so sad to hear about Don. Our business association goes as far back as 1999, and I had the honor of working with him directly back then. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Mary and family: I tried to find out about arrangements and only found this less than two hours before the service. I was unable to drive from Glen Rose and make it on time. I am so sorry not to be there for Don. He was a true friend for many years.

I meet Don 20 years ago. He had completed an investigation for a client that involved an internal theft of high dollar airline parts. Don referred the case to the Dallas FBI Office and it was assigned to me. The case was successfully prosecuted in Federal Court with the conviction of three defendants based primarily on outstanding investigation conducted by Don. Don was a great investigator and a fine gentleman. My condolences to the Don Schonoff Family. Larry Sandri

Don, you will be missed. You were part of my life since kindergarten, part of all the fun and mischief we could think up at St. Peters, from tormenting the nuns to playing in Madison Park, to high school games and friends. When I think of my young years, you were always a part of them. Be at peace my friend, prepare a place for your friends to join you in the Presence of Our Lord. My condolences to your family, I know you will leave a big hole in their lives.
