Donna Jean Koontz, 70, of 3218 N. College Ave., died on Tuesday (June 19, 2012) in Sunset Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer and ALS. She was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Clayton, a daughter to Leonard and Marjorie Harberts Leenerts. She married Kermit Koontz on March 15, 1959, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden. He survives. Donna attended Central High School in Camp Point and was a graduate of Quincy Beauty Academy. She was self-employed as a cosmetologist. She also worked in food service for the Parkway School District, retiring in 2002. Donna had also been a CNA at the Illinois Veterans Home. She was a member of Luther Memorial Church. Donna enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Kermit, she is survived by three children, David Koontz and his wife, Linda of Du Pont, Wash., Sandy Machino of Quincy and Dan Koontz and his wife, Julie of O'Fallon, Ill.; six grandchildren, Sean Koontz, Nicole Shelton and her husband, Jacy, Joshua Matticks and his wife, Michelle, Cody Koontz, Casey Koontz and Caitlyn Koontz; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Judy Nall and her husband, Bob, Janice Myer and her husband, Ben, and Marcia Lummis and her husband, Mike. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Kim Zanger along with her husband, Jim Zanger. SERVICES: Noon Saturday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Hale conducting. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. VISITATION: 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.
