LEWISTOWN, Mo. --Edgar I. Yates Jr., 70, of 24033 Granite Ave., Lewistown, died at 6:51 p.m. Wednesday, (Dec. 26, 2012) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Edgar was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Mexico, Mo., a son of Edgar I. and Christine M. Byars Yates Sr. He married Catherine "Kaye" Atkins on Nov. 9, 1963, in Quincy. She survives. He was a brick layer with Bricklayers Local No. 8 of Illinois. He was employed by Rupp and Kinney and for Bill VonderHaar Construction and retired in 2002. He loved hunting and fishing. He loved building stuff for people because he was a woodworker. Survivors also include, his children, Eillen "Lini" (Dale) Brown of Monticello, and Dustin "Dusty" (Debbie) Yates of Canton; his mother, Christine M. Yates of Quincy; five grandchildren, Zachary Cottrell of Columbia, Kayla (Jacob) Scott of Ewing, Terry (Anjyla) Wilson of Palo Pinto, Texas, Remington Yates and Hunter Yates, both of Canton; a great-grandson, Mykael Austin of Palo Pinto; and his Shiba-Inu dog, Penny. Edgar was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Leola Ann "Lana" Dodds; a son, Rowdy Eugene Yates in infancy; a stepgranddaughter, Amanda Brown; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, McKenzie Almanza. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy with the Rev. Dwayne Larenson conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. tonight in the funeral home.
