FOWLER, Ill. -- Sister Elizabeth Clare Mast, Franciscan Sister of the Poor, 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday (July 1, 2012) in Cincinnati. She was born July 20, 1922, in Fowler, a daughter of August and Clara C. Talken Mast. Sister Elizabeth entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor on Feb. 1, 1940, after coming to know the Sisters at the former St. Mary's Hospital. She made her final profession Sept. 8, 1947. She received her bachelor of arts at Xavier University in Cincinnati. Sister Elizabeth worked in the business and purchasing office mainly at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Prior to this, she was the Provincial Bursar for the St. Anthony Province from 1960 until 1966 in Wartwick, N.Y. She belonged to the National Purchasing Agents for Hospitals group. She was active in the Charismatic Movement, and she was active with the Shepherds of Christ prayer group. She is survived by sisters Alta Laurine Hildebrand, Rita Blickhan and her husband, Paul, and Mary Jo Holtschlag and her husband, Robert E.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Irene Mast of Quincy, Mrs. Dorothy Mast of Fowler and Mrs. Sylvia Mast of Merchanicsville, Md.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard Mast, Carl Mast, Virgil Mast and Norbert Mast in infancy; and a sister, Irene Klauser. SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. today in St. Clare's Convent Chapel, Cincinnati. A funeral High Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church conducted by the Rev. Arnaud Devilliers, F.S.S.P. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, Quincy, with a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. MEMORIALS: The family requests that Masses be given in the name of Sr. Elizabeth C.
