MONTICELLO, Mo. -- Everett Lee Cottrell Jr., 77, of Country Air Retirement Estates, formerly of Monticello, died Thursday (April 28, 2010), in Country Air.
Junior was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in rural Lewis County Missouri, a son of Everett Lee Cottrell Sr., and Anna Marie Dehner Cottrell. He married Anna Lee King on Nov. 16 1957, at Methodist Parsonage in Monticello. She died Feb. 3, 2007.
Junior attended Monticello Schools and was a member of the Monticello Community Church.
Junior served in the Unites States Army from January 1955 to December 1962, serving one year abroad in Japan as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne.
He was employed by Gardner Denver as a service specialist traveling worldwide to service compressors until he retired in 1993. He bought and sold furs and worked in the hay fields after retirement. He loved to coon, deer, and coyote hunt, until his health would not allow him to any longer. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his sons and daughters, David and wife, Brenda, of Kahoka, Dodie Washburn and husband, Bob, of Labelle, Renny Lay and husband, Doug, of Labelle, Darren and wife, Bonnie, of Monticello, Darrell and wife, Robin, of Lagrange, Renzie and wife, Debbie, of Monticello; two brothers, Jim Cottrell and wife, Carol, of Lewiston, Wayne Cottrell and friend, Chris Whitmer, of Monticello; three sisters, Ruth Clapper of Quincy, Ill., Margie Russell and husband, Charles, of Fort Bend, Ind., Jane Bryant and husband, Dennis, of Sumter S.C.; a brother-in-law Hardin Oberst and spouse, Sue, of Pine Grove Calif.; and a sister-in-law Colleen Remole, of Owensboro Ky.; 20 grandchildren and step grandchildren, Eric Cottrell, Amy Cottrell and fiancé, Zach Geisendorfer, Jeremy Rayl, Timothy Bromann and spouse, Matt, Kathleen Franks and spouse, Drew, Jessica Hudson and spouse, Josh, Shane Washburn, Heather Washburn, and Tamara Washburn, Casey Bell and husband, Chris, Joseph Lay and spouse, Shannon, Lane Lay, Josh Cottrell, Zach Cottrell, Kayla Cottrell and fiancé, Jacob Scott, Tom Cottrell, James Burchell Jr., Kim and spouse, Lt. Tyler Martin, Ben Cottrell and Hannah Cottrell; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Marie Cottrell; his wife Anna; and sisters Wanda Lou Gravitt and Forest Rose Morgan.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in the Davis Funeral Home, Canton, with the Rev. Gary Whitaker conducting. Burial will be in Little Mountain Cemetery, Monticello.
VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Monticello Community Church or Country Air Retirement Estate.
