GOLDEN, Ill. -- Fred L. Douglas, 64, of Golden, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday (March 8, 2014) in his home.

He was born on June 9, 1949, in Quincy to Jack and Carlene VanBlair Douglas. He married Gay E. Aden on Dec. 13, 1970, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. She died May 9, 2010.

Fred worked as a machinist at Gardner-Denver Manufacturing in Quincy for many years and was also a talented carpenter.

He was a 1967 graduate of Central High School and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking in his shop.

Fred proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1973.

Fred is survived by two daughters, Brittany (Brad) Bearden of Neosho, Mo., and Kara (Chris) Marlow of LaPrairie; five grandchildren, Spencer and Ainsley Bearden and Lane, Kennady and Karlee Marlow; one brother, Tully (Lisa) Douglas of Quincy; one sister, Carla Boren of Lee's Summit, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Odie Aden of Golden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death along with his wife, Gay, by his parents, Jack and Carlene Douglas; a brother, Daryl Douglas; and his father-in-law, "Squirt" Aden.

SERVICES: Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, conducted by Pastor David Armstrong-Reiner. Burial with military honors by the Golden American Legion Post No. 801 and the Illinois Military Honors Detail will be in Golden Memorial Gardens in Golden.

VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Golden Good Shepherd Home or Trinity Lutheran Church.
