George DeForrest Beasley, 84, of 3812 Meadow Dr., died at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2013) in the Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born April 8, 1928, in Warren County, a son to Floyd and Reah See Beasley. He married Joan Hillen on Aug. 2, 1954, in Monmouth. She survives.

George graduated from Roseville High School and attended Monmouth College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953, stationed in Germany.

He was employed at Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company in both Galesburg and Quincy. He then worked at Motorola from 1970 until it closed. He then worked at Merkels until 1985 when multiple sclerosis forced him to retire.

George was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church. For many years, he collected Lionel electric trains and belonged to the Lionel Collectors Club of America, Train Collectors Association and the Toy Train Operating Society. He was an avid camper and belonged to the Avion Travelcade Club, Fleetwood Travelcade Club and the Midwest RV Club. For many years, George and Joan spent the winter months at Tropic Star RV Resort in Pharr, Texas.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Martha Raaymakers of Port Huron, Mich.; a son, Stephen (Mandy) Beasley of Paloma; three grandchildren, Roberta (Jon) Kolar-Green of Port Huron and D.J. and Alexia Beasley, both of Paloma; a step-granddaughter, Sadie Willingham of Paloma; and five great-grandchildren of Port Huron.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Scott Grulke conducting. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Roseville.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Vermont Street United Methodist Church or the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund.
