Herbert F. Wand Sr., 72, of 3734 Prairie Ridge Dr., died at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday (April 17, 2013) in his home. He was born May 12, 1940, in Quincy, a son of Phillip and Clara Blaesing Wand. On May 28, 1960, he married Frances "Frankie" Griffin in the Church of St. Peter. She survives. Herbert was a carpenter, working with his brother, Howard, for many years. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, camping, mushroom hunting, watching "western" movies and playing cards, especially euchre and poker. He was known for his extensive frog collection. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Mike Kimbrell) Wegs of Lewistown, Mo., and Nancy Jacobs of Quincy; a son, Herbert F. (Angie Gilkerson) Wand Jr. of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Jordan Wegs of Springfield, Ill., Nichelle and Anna Jacobs, Logan, Emily and Parker Wand, all of Quincy and Trisha O'Cheltree of Hannibal, Mo.; a brother, Donald (Bertie) Wand of Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Shanea Jacobs; two brothers, Art Wand and Howard Wand; a sister, Rosie Goerlich; and a nephew, David Wand. SERVICES: Prayers at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter with Monsignor Leo Enlow conducting. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Quincy. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. MEMORIALS: Grandchildren's Education Fund or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
