Isabel C. Schmidt of St. Charles, Mo., died on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the age of 81.
She was born Isabel Musholt (along with her twin sister Annabel) on April 2, 1930 in Quincy. The sisters were the first set of twins born in the then-new St. Mary Hospital.
Isabel graduated from Notre Dame in Quincy and attended Quincy College.
She married David H. Schmidt in St. Charles, Mo. He died Aug. 24, 1999. Together they formed DH Schmidt Custom Cabinetry Manufacturing Co. in St. Peters, Mo., providing fine custom built commercial cabinetry. Their business was successful due in no small part to Isabel's tireless dedication and ambition.
She was quite the world traveler, but what meant the most to her was her family. Izzy (as she was lovingly referred to by her family) was an expert at hosting family get-togethers. She was a wonderful person and a very happy soul. Anyone who knew her will long remember her for her proficiency in spreading love and kindness. Her support and caring generosity was a gift she shared with many people, both family and friend.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Duga and Teresa (Daniel) Dreher; two sons, Philip (Lesa) Schmidt and Richard (Amy) Schmidt; grandchildren, Brian (Frankie) Duga, Erica (Jeffrey) Tiemann, Emily Duga, Jennifer Schmidt, Holly Schmidt, D.J. (Megan) Dreher, Chad Dreher, Corey Dreher, Ryan Schmidt, Laurie Schmidt, Derrick Schmidt and Jessica Schmidt; and she was great-grandmother to Isabel Tiemann, Henry Tiemann and Bria Duga.
Also surviving are three brothers, Clyde Musholt of Rogers, Ark., Stan (Mary) Musholt and Frank Musholt, and a sister, Marge (Tom) Bergman, all of Quincy, along with many nieces and nephews, and an extended family of many more. She was a loving aunt, cousin and friend to anyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David, as well as her parents, Alois and Isabel Musholt, her twin sister, Annabel Degenhardt and a sister, Carol Weisenhorn, along with a brother, the Rev. Silas Musholt, OFM.
