James M. "Jim" Baucom Obituary
CAMP POINT, Ill. -- James M. Baucom, 86, of Camp Point, died at 6:18 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2013) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Born March 31, 1927, in New Canton, Jim was a son of Lawrence and Dora Clinging Baucom. He married Irene Knuffman on Sept. 17, 1949, in Liberty. She survives.

Mr. Baucom was member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point since 1951 and the Knights of Columbus in Mount Sterling. He was a past member of Clayton Lions and the Moose Lodge of Quincy. Jim was a member of Midwest Truckers Association since 1973 and served as an advisor for the West Central Region for a number of years. He was one of the original three founding board members for the Clayton-Camp Point Water Commission serving from 1976 to 2008.

He also was an avid bowler belonging to several teams before sponsoring his own.

Jim started his trucking business in April 1949 offering custom lime and fertilizer spreading to the local farming community. Together, Jim and Irene build a business and raised their family through hard work and honesty which their customers recognized by their support. Jim's word was his bond which he sealed with a firm handshake. He enjoyed his trucking business and serving his customers, but gained his reputation from the seat of his spreader truck. He served the community as the last custom spreader truck operator in the surrounding area.

Jim always stated his value of family, friends, and health. There is no replacement.

Surviving in addition to his wife are seven children, Jimmy Baucom (Helen) of Clayton, Norm Baucom of Overland Park, Kan., Bob Baucom (Mary Lynn) of Camp Point, Gary Baucom (Debra) of Quincy, Steve Baucom (Cathy) of Camp Point, Mary Aden (Karl) of Golden and Kathleen Schlueter (Doug) of Quincy; 17 grandchildren, Jennifer Uppinghouse, Jason Baucom (Megan), Justin Baucom, Heather Faught, Kristina Baucom, Michelle Keller (Nathan), Jessalynn Baucom, Jami Johnson (Adam), Zach Baucom (Kolina), Taylor Baucom, Blair Baucom, Blake Baucom, Lucas Baucom, Brianne Dearwester (Andrew), Dylan Aden, Alexandra Schlueter and Ava Schlueter; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Ronnie Baucom (Sharon), of Macomb, and Roger Baucom (Loretta), of Macomb; a sister, Martha Baucom, of Macomb; a sister-in-law, Ruth Baucom, of Liberty; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Forest and Richard Baucom.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Camp Polnt, conducted by the Rev. Tom Henseler. Burial will follow at Liberty (Ill.) Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point.

MEMORIALS: St. Thomas Catholic Church, of Quincy or Downs Country (a Tri-state organization working with Down syndrome and all children that learn differently).

ARRANGEMENTS: Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point.
