John Bybee Jr., 88, of 523 Temple St., died at 2:39 p.m. Friday (Sept. 6, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Canton, Ill., a son of John Henry and Florence Fogg Bybee. On Feb. 26, 1946, he married Patricia L. Maurice in Canton. She survives.

In 1943, he graduated from Canton High School. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Cleveland in the South Pacific. John then worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1978 as a supervisor. He then worked nine years for Continental Cablevision.

He and Pat were avid boaters and members of the Quincy Boat Club. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Stephen Robert (Mary Alice) Bybee of Quincy, and Bruce Warren (Ann) Bybee of Burnett, Texas; four grandchildren, Kevin (Amie) Bybee of Kansas City, Kan., John (Abby) Bybee of Sherman and Andrew Bybee and Amanda (Charles) Morgan, both of Pflugerville, Texas; and 10 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Bybee, Robert Allen Bybee and David Bybee; and five sisters, Mable VanDyke, Frances Herink, Mickey Hipple, Daisey Volker and Mary Myers.

SERVICES: Noon Wednesday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
