John Damhorst of Oak Forest died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2014) at age 68 from multiple myeloma. He was married to Rita (nee Gash) and is the father of Scott (Kristy) of Acworth, Ga.; brother of Walt (Pam) of Davenport, Iowa; uncle to many and friend to all. John graduated Christian Brothers High School in Quincy He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He transferred from Quincy in 1986 with Illinois Bell and was a cable splicer for 30 years. He became a contractor for AT&T and taught classes until his second retirement in 2006. John was active in soccer in Quincy and Oak Forest and was a board member for the Oak Forest Park District and high school. He was a big fan of his fantasy football league and fishing. He was preceded in death by his son, Derek; a brother, Roger; and a sister, Joan. SERVICES: Mass of resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Damian Church in Oak Forest. Intement will be private. VISITATION: 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Kerry Funeral Home, 7020 W. 127th St., Palos Heights.
