PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- John G. Yaeger, 41, of Pontiac, formerly of Pittsfield, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2012) in O.S.F. St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.

John was born in Pittsfield on Dec. 23, 1970, a son of Roger and Dorothy Hooper Yaeger.

He was employed as a corrections officer for the state of Illinois Department of Corrections in Pontiac.

John was a graduate of PHS Class of 1989. As a youngster, John was a Quincy Herald-Whig paper carrier starting at the age of 8 until he was 16 and was awarded "Carrier of the Year" for the Herald-Whig. He also attended the Boy Scout Jamboree in Philmont, N.M., for Boy Scout Troop 152 that year.

He was a "hot rod" enthusiast and built his own hot rod with the help of his father, brother and his uncle, Chuck. He enjoyed racing BMX bicycles and racing a drag bike and collecting coins. His greatest joy was spending time with his daughter, Taylor.

He is survived by his parents, Dorothy and Roger Yaeger of Pittsfield; grandmother, Ann Yaeger of Pittsfield; daughter, Taylor Nadine Wiedmann; close friend, Melody Wiedmann of Pontiac; brother, Ed (Brenda) Yaeger of Leheigh Acres, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Anita (Bobby) Kuntz of Pittsfield; three nieces and two nephews, Alyssa and Brandi Cothren, Chloe Kuntz, Zachary and Jacob Yaeger; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his uncle, Scott Yaeger; grandparents, Floyd Yaeger and Paul and Juanita Hooper; and aunts, Donna Foster and Linda Heeman.

John was a tissue donor and he will live on through the lives of the many recipients of his gifts.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, conducted by Pastor Michael TenEyck. Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. A memorial service will be held in Pontiac at a later date. Lunch will be served for family and friends after the service at the Crossroads Center in Pittsfield.

VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Taylor Wiedmann Education Fund.
