CANTON, Mo. -- Joseph W. "Butch" McDermott, 72, of rural Canton, died Saturday (May 18, 2013) at his home in rural Canton.

The son of Thomas Russell and Martha Louise Bader, Mr. McDermott was born on Jan. 10, 1941, at Hannibal. He was married Lola McFarland on Sept. 30, 1961, at Moline, Ill.

Joe graduated from Williamstown High School. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton, the Knights of Columbus Council 2526 of St. Patrick, the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He loved to hunt and spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lola McDermott, of Monticello; a son, Tony McDermott and his wife, Robin, of Canton; a daughter, Tina Bliss and husband, Josh, of Canton; four grandchildren, Ashlee (Michael) Blankenship, Truman McDermott, J.T. McDermott and Mason Sherwood; three stepgrandchildren, Marlaena Sherwood, Ayden Bliss and Aubrey Bliss; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Blankenship and Jahzara Sherwood; two sisters, Mary Campbell and husband, Jerry, of Alexandria, and Mrs. Joann Boudreau of Antioch; two brothers, Ronnie McDermott of Argyle, Iowa, and Jim McDermott and wife, Carol, of St. Charles; and several nieces nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Eston Boudreau; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Nancy Penick; and brother-in-law, Art Shirey.

SERVICES: At 10 a.m. Wednesday, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton, with the Rev. Basil Eruo officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery near Williamstown.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Welch, David Boudreau, Matt Kirchner, Dustin Kirchner, Danny Shirey, Greg Pearl, Abe Boudreau and Truman McDermott.

Honorary pallbearers Darin Boudreau, Jeremy McDermott, Brian McDermott, Ben McDermott, Joe Ellison, Mark Ellison, Michael Blankenship, Josh Bliss, Leo Pearl, Vincel Bronestine, Kenny Collins, Bill Doran, Larry Wheeler, Dale Herran, Kevin Shirey, Craig Shirey and Gary Pearl.

VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton with prayer services at 8 p.m.
