SUTTER, Ill. -- Karen S. Nagel, 69, of Sutter, died at 5:22 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) in her home in Warsaw. She was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Paul and Dorothy Tripp Burrows. Paul Burrows died in 1944 in World War II near Normandy, France. Dorothy later married Charles Alberts. Karen married Donald Nagel on Aug. 19, 1967, in Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter. He survives in Sutter. Karen graduated from Quincy College. She taught at the Warsaw schools for 30-plus years until her retirement. Karen was a member of Sutter Salem Bible Church. Karen was an avid reader, singer and poet. She was an Awana helper and a vacation Bible school teacher at Sutter Salem Bible Church. Karen volunteered at Warsaw Elementary School reading with children and at Tri-State Family Services in Carthage. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family, friends and church family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Survivors include a son, Chuck (Kelly) Nagel of Warsaw, and a daughter, Donna (Kris) Altiser of Unionville, Mo. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Bailey and Kendall Nagel and Hadley Altiser. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Burrows in 1944, and father Charles Alberts; her mother, Dorothy Alberts; a sister, Sharon, at birth; and a brother, Sonny, in infancy. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sutter Salem Bible Church with Pastor Mike McMillen conducting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. VISITATION: After 2 p.m. Monday in the Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home, Hamilton, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. MEMORIALS: Sutter Salem Bible Church or Tri-State Family Services.
