HULL, Ill. -- Kathryn Joy Gray, 57, of Hull, died at 2:06 p.m. Sunday (May 5, 2013) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Mrs. Gray was born June 1, 1955, in Hannibal, Mo., to John and Eileen Kenady Dunker. She was married to Robert G. Gray on Aug. 23, 1974, in Hull. He survives. Mrs. Gray graduated in 1973 from West Pike High School, then graduated summa cum laude in 1977 from Northeast Missouri State with a bachelor's degree. In 1993, she received her master's degree in education from Quincy University. She was a talented artist practicing in all mediums. Mrs. Gray was active in and very supportive of the local art community. She was an art teacher from 1977-2011 at Hannibal High School, West Pike, Payson, Monroe Elementary in Quincy, Baldwin Intermediate School in Quincy, Quincy Notre Dame, Liberty and most recently for the Western School District. She loved nature and her farm upbringing and enjoyed caring for her flower beds. Kathryn loved spending time with family especially her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was a member of Hull United Methodist Church. At church she also taught Sunday school, was the choir director, church pianist and an outreach committee member. Kathryn was an inspiration to all who met her. Other survivors include her parents, John and Eileen Dunker; three children, Abraham Gray (Susie) of Quincy, Kathryn "Elizabeth" Mannhardt (Andreas) of Hull and Rebecca Jean Gray of Hull; two brothers, Rick Dunker (Marti) and Brian Dunker; a sister, Mona Dunker Dolbeare (Rusty); two grandchildren, Isaac Gray and David Gray; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Joyanna Marie Gray; grandparents; and various aunts, uncles and cousins. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Hull United Methodist Church in Hull, with the Rev. Sheila Kelly officiating. Burial will be at Akers Chapel in Hull. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hull United Methodist Church in Hull.
