Mrs. L. Joan Michel, 84, of the Sunset Home, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday (Sept. 28, 2012) in the home.|
Born Jan. 31, 1928, in Quincy, Joan was a daughter of Oren and Martha Seehorn Lawrence. She married Bryce Michel on June 9, 1962, in Plainville. He survives.
A 1945 graduate of Payson Seymour High School and 1949 graduate of Knox College with a bachelor's degree in music education, Joan taught music at Lexington High School and later was a private piano, voice and instrument teacher from 1961 to 1992. Many of her students would win the talent contest at the Payson Old Settlers Picnic Celebration.
Joan was the choir director at Plainville Methodist Church and played for many activities and services at Sunset Home over the years. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Delta and Sigma Alpha Iota sororities and the Pythian Sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Bryce; a sister, Jean Bowman (Richard) of Quincy; three stepchildren, Joyce Althoff (Carl) of Plainville, Elvin Michel (Laurie) of Crossville, Tenn., and Gary Michel (Debra) of Vancouver Wash.; six stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Clinging (Chad), Preston Althoff (Megan), Brandi Sperry (Brian), Nathan Michel, Melissa Johnson (J.J.) and Justin Michel; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Michel was preceded in death by her parents.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Richard Martin. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Blessing Hospice or Payson Congregational Church.
