MILTON, Ill. -- Lambert L. Springer, 81, of Milton, died Monday (Feb. 25, 2013) in his residence in Milton. Lambert was born on the family farm near Milton on Sept. 25, 1931, a son of Loren R. and Veda M. Barton Springer. He married Shirley Lee Robinson, and she died Aug. 4, 1976. On Sept. 13, 1991, Lambert and Goldie R. Shrock were married in Carrollton, and she died Oct. 26, 2008. Lambert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and served his country during the Korean War. Lambert retired from Caterpillar in Joliet after 30-plus years as a welder and supervisor. He was a member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge 420 and the Pittsfield American Legion Post 152. He served as mayor of Milton and served on the town board. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, mushrooming, arrowhead hunting and visiting with friends. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Springer of Joliet; two sisters, Laura Bell (Glenn) McConnell of Milton and Evelyn Hayes of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Mike McConnell of Overland Park, Kan., Karen K. McConnell of Pittsfield, Paul (Linda) Hayes of Springfield, Kevin Hayes of Springfield and Kent (LeighAnn) Hayes of LaVergne, Tenn.; and great-nieces and -nephews. Lambert was preceded in death by his son, Tim, in February 2012 and his parents. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with the Rev. Don Crater conducting. Interment will be in the Blue River Cemetery near Detroit with graveside military rites accorded by Pittsfield American Legion Post 152 and Funeral Honor Guard of Macomb.
