LaVerta Liesen, 92, of Clayton, formerly of Quincy, died Thursday (Dec. 5, 2013) in the home her daughter shared with her. She was born April 18, 1921, in Quincy, a daughter of Frank and Myrtle Schnell Kleemeyer. She was raised in the home of Heinrick and Emma Sickmann. She married Maurice O. Liesen on Jan. 12, 1944. He died in 1996. In earlier years she worked for Genteman Florist. Later she was employed by St. Mary and Blessing hospitals as a licensed practical nurse. She was presently a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She previously was a member at St. John Catholic Church, St. Brigid Catholic Church and St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was always very active in her parish church. She is survived by three children, Maureen Burkemper and her husband, Larry, of Clayton, Joyce Kilman and her husband, Harry, of Austin, Texas, and Gregory M. Liesen and his wife, Amy, of Clayton; nine grandchildren, Richard J. Burkemper, Matthew J. (Catherine) Burkemper, Dawn M. (Robert) Hale, Dominique M. Kilman, Christopher R. Liesen and his significant other, Missy, Jeremiah M. (Allison) Liesen, Amanda M. (Toby) Miller, Emma Laughlin and Ivy E. Liesen; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Freda Humke. In addition to her husband, Maurice, and her parents, Frank Kleemeyer and Myrtle Felgar, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene M. Liesen. SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
