Lewis E. Walker Jr., 91, formerly of 2835 Bluff Ridge Drive, Quincy, died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2013) in Sunset Home. He was born June 4, 1921, in Keokuk, Iowa, a son of Lewis E. and Linda Ruth Ahle Walker. On Feb. 4, 1950, he married Ila F. Hughs in Davenport, Iowa. She survives. Lewis was a 1941 graduate of Keokuk High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a storekeeper for 15 years at the First Mississippi Fertilizer Co. in Fort Madison, Iowa. Lewis was a member of the Church of Christ where he served as an elder and deacon. He was also very proud of his work in the Church of Christ Prison Ministry. Lewis was coordinator at the senior center in Carthage for nine years. He took great pride in tending his orchard and working in his garden in Hamilton. He volunteered at Blessing Hospital and Sunset Home, and with various mailings. In his spare time, Lewis enjoyed woodworking and furniture repairs. Survivors in addition to his wife include two children, Dennis (Kathy Ann) Walker of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Linda (Harold) Randall of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jean and Leland Walker. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Church of Christ, with Jeremy Schopper conducting. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
