PALMYRA, Mo. -- Marion O. Slates, 75, of Palmyra, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday (May 23, 2012) in his home. Marion was born Nov. 19, 1936, in Palmyra, a son of Albert L. and Almyra Noble Slates. Marion married Bonnie J. Morgan on Nov. 17, 1961, in Palmyra. Marion was a machinist at Gardner Denver Inc. for 33 years and retired in 1998. He had worked part-time at Little Dog Auto Parts in Palmyra. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Mary E. (Noble) Springer of Tebbets, Ellen A. (Dwayne) Goodwin of Palmyra, and Dee Ann (Matt) Gottman of Palmyra; grandchildren, Dwayne (Becky) Goodwin, Ronnie (Carla) Smith, Jamie (Leslie) Smith, Darin (Joelle) Goodwin, Bonnie (Tim) Smith, Amy Smith, Dustin (AnnaBelle) Lawrence, Beth Saleny, Kyle (Brandy) Schneider, Matthew Gottman, Caleb (Kayla) Gottman; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Leigh Slates Jr., Lesley Noble Slates and Robert Slates. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra with the Rev. Alex Ekka and Deacon Bob Leake conducting. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra. Casket bearers will be Dwayne M. Goodwin, Ronnie Smith, James M. Smith, Darin Goodwin, Dustin Lawrence, Kyle Schneider, Matthew Gottman, and Caleb Gottman. Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. A prayer service will be held at 7. MEMORIALS: St. Joseph Catholic Church or James E. Cary Cancer Center.
