Mary McCorry Obituary

Mary Ann McCorry, nee Barnes, 89, of Willowbrook, formerly of Quincy, died Tuesday (April 16, 2013) in Hinsdale.

She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel Charles McCorry; loving mother of Daniel Jr. (Robin) McCorry, Brian (Betsy) McCorry, Colleen McCorry, Maureen (David) Drabik and the late John McCorry; cherished grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of five; dear sister of Bernice Small and Herbert T. Barnes Jr.; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

A Delafield, Wis., native, Mrs. McCorry was born May 22, 1923, the daughter of Dr. Herbert T. and Hazel M. Barnes. She married Daniel C. McCorry June 24, 1950, in Okauchee, Wis.

Mrs. McCorry earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from MacMurray College in Jacksonville. Before marrying, she held various jobs after graduation including the position of admissions representative for her alma mater.

Due to her husband's career with Sears, Mrs. McCorry lived in several cities including Madison Wis., Des Moines, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minn., Louisville, Ky., Creve Coeur, Mo., and Alton and Quincy. She worked relentlessly to make each new house a warm, loving environment for her husband and four children.

Mrs. McCorry thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for various organizations in each community she lived. She was active in parish committees, served as Den mother for her sons' Cub Scout pack, led the cookie drive for her daughters' Girl Scout troop and worked at her children's swim meets. Once her children left home, her volunteer work continued as she involved herself in the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, the St. Mary's Hospital Guild and mentored students in the Quincy public schools.

Her love of Shakespeare, American history and classical music filled her home with books and melodies. She embraced technology and kept in touch with family and friends via email until recently.

Known for her positive nature, she will be remembered for enjoying life and celebrating Christmas and St. Patrick's Day with great enthusiasm.
