PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Mary Jo Foster, 79, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday evening (May 14, 2013) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She was born in Barry on July 13, 1933, a daughter of Joseph Aaron and Hilda Hack Fletcher. She married William F. Foster on Aug. 18, 1951, in the Baptist Church in Barry. He survives.

Mary Jo attended John Wood Community College, taking business courses in shorthand and typing. She worked for the USDA Soil and Water Conservation Service for 22 years as an office administrator and was treasurer for the Bay Creek Watershed District for 27 years.

She was a member of the Pike County Home Extension, Fireside Friends Camping Club and Golden Guernsey Association. She was active in 4-H, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and canning. She loved traveling, music and piano playing, and reading. She was a proofreader for the Pike Press newspaper. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Mary Jo is survived by two sons, Donald (Dianna) Foster of Pittsfield and David (Debbie) Foster of Rolling Meadows; a daughter, Anita (Ed) Selock of Monticello; six grandchildren, Sarah (Jim) Sullivan of Springfield, Ill., Michael (Jamie) Foster of Mount Zion, Julie Foster of Pittsfield, Deanna Foster of Rolling Meadows, Dusti Foster of Bloomington and Ren Selock of Monticello; and three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Minnie Gallaher of Quincy and Alvah (Dan) Fryer of Galesburg, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Foster.

SERVICES: 7 p.m. Friday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield. Interment will be in St. Stephens Episcopal Cemetery at Pittsfield.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
