Mausilee Sylas Knight, 75, of 1315 College, died Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) in St. Vincent Home. She was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Chicago, one of six children born to the union of Nola Brewer and Frank Sylas Sr. She went to be with the Lord on Oct. 18, 2013, and joined her parents, sisters Juanita Sylas Spencer, Francis Sylas August and Leona Sylas McGhee and her only brother, Frank Sylas Jr. She completed her education at Roosevelt University in Chicago. She was valedictory throughout all her years in school; she was a true scholar. She went on to receive her nursing license and worked at Mercy Hospital. She left Chicago in 1975 and moved to Quincy. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital for over 30 years as well as Sunset Nursing Home and Good Samaritan Home. Mausilee was dedicated to her sons, family and friends. She always was willing to give a helping hand or listening ear. She enjoyed going to the senior activity craft room whenever she could, learning how to do what ever she could with friends. Mausilee confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. She truly gave her heart and soul to the Lord. Mausilee leaves behind a sister, Joan Sylas Sills; two sons, Vincent Knight and Adam Knight; nephews Joseph Spencer, Harold August, John Sills, Gregory Sills, Eddie Sylas, Nicholas Sylas and Paul Sylas; nieces Francine Taylor, Patricia Sylas, Kimberly Christmas, Gretchen Murray, Ashaki Sylas, Pele Sills, Sonya Young and Michelle Sylas; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
