Minnie Esther Bennett Obituary
Minnie Esther Bennett, 99, of Carthage, died 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at Heartland Care Center, Macomb.

Minnie was born Nov. 8, 1917, a daughter of William and Minnie Kerlin Martin in Valparaiso, Ind. She graduated from Valparaiso High School, where she lettered as a member of the women's basketball team. On Aug. 12, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles H. Bennett in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1984.

Minnie had helped on the family farm and later babysat and was a cook at Memorial Hospital in Carthage. Minnie was very active in the community. She was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage and T.O.P.S. She loved baking, and several generations enjoyed her cakes for various events. She also enjoyed sewing. She was very caring, and enjoyed being around children. She babysat for many years and was a grandmother figure for many children over the years, especially Cierra and Kayla Winters. Minnie was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star. Minnie had traveled extensively with Charles and Sandra.

Minnie is survived by her son, Charles "Chuck" (Sandra) Bennett of Carthage; a daughter, Patricia Reed of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Douglas (Laura) Bennett, Jeffery Bennett and Jennifer Sassin; and great-grandchildren, Madyson Bennett and Lance, Holly, Blair and Danelle Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; two sons, Ronald and Richard; a grandson, Michael Moore; 10 brothers and sisters, Ralph, Dewey, Maynard, Morris, William, Jr. and Glenn Martin, Gladys Shirey, Viola Munn and two in infancy.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the First Christian Church in Carthage. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Augusta.

VISITATION: Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage.
