Naomi Bessie Fish, 94, of 1739 Jefferson, Quincy, died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in her daughter's home in Blue Springs, Mo. Bessie was born April 7, 1919, in Quincy, a daughter of Numa Smith and Kate Ewen Jordan. She married Charles Seaver Fish on Jan. 24, 1938. He died in February 1995. Bessie graduated from the first Licensed Practical Nursing program in Quincy. She worked for about three years at the Illinois Veterans Home. Bessie decided that her golden years were slipping by, so she retired. Bessie and her husband traveled extensively, both in and out of the country. She was active in various dance classes at the Quincy Senior Center, and she walked three miles each day until she was incapacitated by shingles pain at the age of 89. She continued to be consumed by shingles pain until her death. Survivors include her son, Charles Dennis (Rita) Fish of Shelby, N.C.; her daughter, Judith Ann (Bill) Ecton of Blue Springs; six grandchildren, Dana Fish (David) Richardson, Michael (Kerry) Ecton of Montgomery City, Mo., Nicole Ecton (Brian) Davison of Webb City, Mo., David Alan Ecton of Marietta, Ga., Jordan Fish of Huntersville, N.C., and Linsey Fish (Josh) Nealey of Charlotte, N.C.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Rebeckah, Nathan and Hannah Richardson, Jack, Grace and Gretchen Ecton, Tyler, Emily and Rechel Davison, Taylor Hamlin and Asher Nealy. In addition to her husband, Bessie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Alta Webber. SERVICES: 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev.
