Paul S. Miller Obituary
PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Paul S. Miller, 89, owner of Miller Furniture Store in Pittsfield, passed away Monday (March 4, 2013) in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Paul was born in Pulaski County near Crocker, Mo., on Sept. 27, 1923, a son of Walter and Ollie Van Buskirk Miller. He married Cindy Taylor in 1943 and to that union was born Joe Miller and Susy Kalvoda. He married Kay Frank on Aug. 24, 1961, in Louisiana, Mo., and to that union was born Jackie Miller and Greg Miller.

Paul was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School with the class of 1940. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Isherwood in the Atlantic Fleet as a radio operator. He was so proud that his grandfather was a Union Civil War veteran. After being discharged from the service, he farmed with his father. In 1951, he established the Miller Furniture Store in Pittsfield.

Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed duck hunting, and was an "outfitter" before there were outfitters. He was an accomplished musician in a band called the Shelton Gang, and he was the lead singer and guitar player. Paul was master of ceremonies at the Pittsfield Fall Festival and a charter member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge. He enjoyed watching his son Greg's high school wrestling matches.

Paul is survived by his wife Kay; his son, Joe (Elena) Miller of Los Angeles, and daughters, Jackie Miller of Pittsfield and Susy Kalvoda of Danville, Calif.; two grandchildren, Shannon Tobin and Nicole Miller; and a brother, Lou Miller of Jerseyville.

He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Michelle Miller; and three brothers, Clarence, John and Gene.
