Richard Carlisle Pierce, 62, of 5401 Antoinette Avenue, died at 8 p.m. Monday (Oct. 7, 2013) in Blessing Hospital. Richard was born Oct. 3, 1951, in Jacksonville, Ill., a son of Alvin and Norma Jean Richards Pierce. He married Barbara E. Smith on Feb. 11, 1995, in Jacksonville. She survives. Richard was an over-the-road truck driver for over 40 years. He was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. Richard was an avid reader but he also liked to tinker and spend time outside. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Richard loved spending time with his family, and his grandson, Cayden, was the light of his life. Survivors in addition to his wife, Barbara, include a son, Eddie R. (fiancÃ©e Amanda L. Helton) Smith of Durham, Mo.; a grandson, Cayden Richard Smith of Quincy; five brothers, Mike (Pam) Pierce of Tennessee, Bob (Teri) Pierce of Jacksonville, James (Linda) Pierce of Merrill, Wis., Ron (Lisa) Pierce of Waverly and John Pierce of Girard; two sisters, Diane (Tom) Wright of Springfield, Mo., and Deb Long of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Quincy Memorial Park, with the Rev. Keith Ehresman conducting. MEMORIALS: To the family to help with medical expenses.
