Ronald Carl Pfaffe, 79, of 4221 Maine, formerly of 1101 S. 36th St., died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 2, 2013) in Bickford Cottage. Ronald was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Quincy, a son of Albert C. and Gladys E. Klattenhoff Pfaffe. He married Carol Mae Huseman on Sept. 19, 1959, in Quincy. She survives. Ron graduated from Quincy High School in 1951. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and remained in active service through the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. From 1957 to 1987, he worked for Illinois Bell and AT&T phone companies in Adams County. Ron was a lifetime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ and the Quincy Boat Club. He was an avid fisherman. Ron also loved to hunt duck, turtle, squirrel, rabbit, quail, pheasant and dove. Later in life, his passion was replaced by the utmost pride and pleasure in attending any of his grandchildren's activities. He spoiled those children rotten with boat rides and tubing on the river, to pulling them all behind the old tractor through the snow on the toboggan. Grandpa will be most greatly missed for his storytelling and corny jokes. His lap was always welcoming a little one to crawl up and hear the one about ... Ron was a lifelong "teacher" and later in life took that talent to the Quincy Early Childhood Center and shared stories, science projects and outdoor life with the small children there who called him "Grandpa Ron." Ron was a stranger to no one. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey C. (Lana) Pfaffe of Ashland; his daughter, Kathy (Robert) Buck of Quincy; his daughter, Amy (Douglas) Willimann of Quincy; brother, Thomas Pfaffe; grandchildren, Michael F.
