CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Rosemary L. Smith, 90, of Carthage, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11, 2012), at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe. Rosemary was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Quincy, a daughter of Louis and Corine Bordenkircher Markert. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Mount Sterling and then went on to graduate from beautician school in Quincy. On Feb. 6, 1946, married Lawrence Henry Smith in Mount Sterling. He died in 1997. Rosemary had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, St. Thomas in Camp Point, and was currently a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage and also the Catholic Women's Club. She and Lawrence enjoyed camping and traveling. Rosemary especially enjoyed time with her family. Rosemary is survived by five children, Larry (Judy) Smith of Manassas, Va., Denny (Barb) Smith of Naples, Fla., Ronald (Mary) Smith of Bowen, John (Janice) Smith of Bowen, and Judy (Lynn) McGaughey of Carthage; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Joan Buck of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; and a brother, Louis Markert. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point.
