Velma Peryl Vollmer, 97, of Quincy, died at 1:37 a.m. Friday (Jan. 17, 2014) in the Good Samaritan Home. Born Jan. 31, 1916, in Liberty, Velma was a daughter of Henry Lewis and Dora Louise Henning Vollmer. Velma was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. She attended Liberty High School and graduated from Quincy High School in 1934 and from the Frances Beauty School in Quincy. She enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states and many foreign countries. Velma owned and operated a beauty salon in Quincy and later was employed as a secretary and office manager for various companies in several different states. She later returned to Quincy to become a caregiver for her parents. Survivors include a niece, Phyllis Hofmeister (Robert) of Quincy; a nephew, Ted K. Vollmer (Linda) of Racine, Wis.; two other nieces, Nyla Hughes of Milwaukee and Nedra Orr of Jacksonville; and four other nephews, Neal Null of Colchester, Norman Null of Laurel, Md., Nolan Null of Catonsville, Md., and Ned Null of Blandinsville. Also surviving are several great-nieces and nephews and special friends. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dr. Floyd Vollmer; and a sister, Clara Null. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Cox conducting. Burial will be in Xander Cemetery in Liberty. VISITATION: 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Wings Comfort Care Program at Good Samaritan Home.
