EWING, Mo. -- William E. "Bill" Shults, 91, of Ewing, died Wednesday, (Jan. 8, 2014) in Country Aire Retirement Estates, Lewistown, with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 30, 1922, a son of Hobart and Elizabeth Selves Shults. He grew up in the Dover community and throughout his life enjoyed spending time on the family farm.

He and his wife Elizabeth Wiseman Shults celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary having been married on June 20, 1948, in Dover.

A World War II Navy veteran, Bill served aboard the USS Ajax from 1944-1946. He was very proud to have been a part of the inaugural Great River Honor Flight in 2010.

Bill worked 38 years in the veterinary research lab at Moorman Manufacturing Co. in Quincy, Ill., retiring in 1985.

He was very involved in community activities and was instrumental in establishing the Ewing Ball Association and enjoyed watching and coaching his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours in the antique car business having restored a 1927 Chevy and enjoyed car shows and parades.

Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ewing, where he drove the church bus for many years. He was a 50-year member of both the Ewing and Monticello Masonic Lodges, a 50 year member of the Lewis County Memorial Post No. 570 of the American Legion in Lewistown and served on the board of the Ewing Memorial Cemetery for many years.

Above all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed many camping trips and was well known for his hand-cranked homemade ice cream.

He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth; four children, Jeana (Richard) Houchins, Mark Shults, Kevin (Kitty) Shults, all of Ewing, and Jan (Buster) Geisendorfer of Monticello; grandchildren include, Ashli Houchins, Josh Houchins, Heather (Justin) Nettleingham, Brandy Shults (Glen Batzinger), Billie Jo (Sean) Bryan, Felicia Shults (Andy Sharpe), Nicole (Jamie) Goodwin, Bridget Geisendorfer and Keli Geisendorfer; great-grandchildren include, Kayla, Justine, Kyle, Wyatt, Noah, Zane, Lacey, Kristopher, Konner, Kash, Karoline, and Evan; one sister, Charilyn Stalder; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death, by his parents; one sister, Eileen Vaughn; one daughter, Pamela Shults; one grandson, Justin Houchins; and one great-grandson, Kendall Shults.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, Ewing with the Rev. Earl Lynn Wiseman conducting. Burial with military honors will be in the Dover Cemetery near LaGrange.

VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. tonight (Friday) in the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
