EDINA, Mo. -- Don Lavern Woodward, 84, of Edina, passed away Thursday (Feb. 27, 2014) in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

He was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Mayday, Kan., a son of John Henry and Vesta R. Shugart Woodward.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Ferrell on Aug. 30, 1947, in Kirksville, and she died Aug. 14, 2013.

Don received his education in Edina, where he graduated from high school. He attended two years at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville.

Don and his wife, Phyllis, resided in Edina all their life. Don was a well-known businessman. He was manager at J. Burdman Auto Parts for several years and part owner of the Farm and Home Stores in Kirksville, Memphis and Edina. He also was a vice-president at First American Security Insurance in Clayton for a number of years.

Don was an active member of the First Christian Church in Edina and had served as deacon, elder and president of the board. Don was also an active member of the Edina Lodge 291 A.F. & A.M. and had served several years as Worshipful Master. Don was active in the Knox County Nutrition Site and the Knox County Food Cupboard.

Don loved bowling, collecting marbles, lending a helping hand to all who were in need and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are one daughter, Donita Carroll and husband, Donald, of South Bend, Ind.; three daughters-in-law, Helena "Ellie" Woodward of Edina, Sharon Culler of Edina, and Vickie Lanning of Springfield; one brother, John Leonard Woodward and wife, Carol, of Newburg, Ind.; one sister, Rowena Dahler of Springdale, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Sarah Jensen of Streator, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Carrie, Amy, Jeff, David, Sarah, Rachel and Robert; thirteen great-grandchildren, Alec, Maggie, Zoe, Kaitlynne, Tyler, Conner, Addison, Ashley, Caleb, Jonas, Mackenzie, Owen and Levi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his wife, Don was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Mickey Lynn Woodward, on Sept. 22, 2007.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina. The Rev. Don Carroll will conduct the services. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville. Casket bearers will be family members. Honorary bearers will be members of Edina Masonic Lodge 291 and the men of the First Christian Church of Edina.

VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home conducted by Edina Lodge 291 A.F. & A.M.
