Lester Bryson McCready, 80, of 720 Sycamore and formerly of 824 Adams, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday (March 4, 2014) in Blessing Hospital. He was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Lima, a son of Lester Earl and Eva Nora Stroud McCready. On March 29, 1957, he married Roselia Marie Dede in Quincy. She died Sept. 30, 2010. Bryson was a farmer near Lima. After moving to Quincy, he worked for Foam Air and then Mids Lumber Co. before starting his own mowing business. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include Amy (Ed) Martin of Quincy, who was like a daughter to him; a son-in-law, Patrick Michael Rice Sr. of Quincy; two grandsons, Patrick Michael Rice Jr. and Joseph Brian Rice of Quincy; two granddaughters, Katie Huls and Brittney Martin, both of Quincy; five great-grandchildren, Aiden Huls, Dagyn Peyton, Erica Rice, and Katelyn and Lisa Ann Catterson, all of Quincy; and two nephews, Dennis (Rebecca) Prunty of Loraine and Mark A. Prunty of South Carolina; a niece, Pamela Mae (Ken) Gray of Loraine; and special friends, John (Judy) Meade of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shari Jonell McCready Rice; and a sister, Dorothy Prunty. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in New Providence Cemetery, Ursa, with the Rev. Joel Hulett officiating. MEMORIALS: Amy Martin, 1521 Lew Court, Quincy, IL 62305.
