John Garfield Hawkins, 70, of 624 N. 12th St., died Sunday (March 9, 2014) in his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1944, in Hannibal, Mo., a son of Jacob and Martha Letcher Hawkins. He married Kristin Bengtson Hawkins on May 25, 1992, in Quincy. She survives. John graduated from Mark Twain High School. He served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, John V. Hawkins and his wife, Michelle, of LaGrange, Mo., and Jashuwha Garfield Hawkins, Colita Hawkins, Nicholas Smith and Jamie Hawkins, all of Quincy; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Guilford Hawkins, and his wife, Marilyn, of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Eva Kay Erby, and her husband, Henry, of New London, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. John was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Smith. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date.
