PALMYRA, Mo. -- Dan Hamlin House, 84, of Palmyra, died Tuesday (April 29, 2014) in Hannibal Regional Hospital. He was born on the farm near Palmyra, on Jan. 21, 1930, a son of James Victor and Josephine Francis Crane House. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he met and married Betty Jean Callighan on June 25, 1950, and they were together almost 64 years. She survives. Mr. House worked for MFA Oil Company as bulk plant manager for 30 years (retired in 1995), delivering gas and diesel to families in the Palmyra area. Prior to his employment with MFA, Mr. House worked for Marion County and the city of Palmyra for several years. He attended Kemp School near Palmyra. During retirement, Mr. House enjoyed life on the farm and visiting with family, and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, other survivors include a brother, Bill House and wife, Betty, of Palmyra; a sister, June Myers of Emden; a sister-in-law, Eunice House of Hannibal; children, Jim House and wife, Donna, of Monroe City, Dianna Hoenes and husband, Rick, of Palmyra, Steve House of Palmyra, Vickie House of Hannibal, and Julia Lehenbauer of Palmyra; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles Myers and brother, Harry House. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in Little Union Cemetery, west of Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson and Rev. Terry M. Buster will conduct. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion 174. Casket bearers are Brock Hoenes, Andy Augspurg, Steven Bock, JonDan Lehenbauer, Joe Heibel and Jeff Heibel. Honorary bearers are Kevin Ahearn, Ryan Buckman, and Justin Brocaille. VISITATION: 10-11 a.m. Friday in the church. MEMORIALS: Little Union Baptist Church or Little Union Cemetery Association.
