PALMYRA, Mo. -- Lawrence H. Heitholt, 93, of Palmyra, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday (May 13, 2014) in Maple Lawn Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Marion County to Henry and Bertha Voepel Heitholt. Lawrence married Elizabeth M. Mosley Feb. 13, 1946, in Atlanta. She died Feb. 23, 2003. Lawrence was a lifelong Marion County farmer. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and was a member of Boots-Dickson Post 174 of the American Legion. He traveled on the Great River Honor Flight on May 22, 2012. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Lawrence loved being with his family and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Lawrence is survived by sons, Larry (Marsha) Heitholt of Quincy, Ill., Gerald Heitholt of Palmyra and Kenneth (Pati) Heitholt of Marana, Az.; daughters, Linda (Steve) Peer of Quincy, Ann Marie (Steve) Barnett of Canton and Betty Shanks of Palmyra; sister, Edna Poppe of Palmyra; grandchildren, Dawn Kindle, Jeff Heitholt, Richard Heitholt, Michael Peer, Jennifer Gilker, Shawn Barnett, Mary Beth Shanks, Joe Shanks, Melanie Stegeman and James Heitholt; and 14 great-grandchildren. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra. The Rev. David Johnson will conduct. Interment with military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. Casket bearers are Michael Peer, Brian Gilker, Shawn Barnett, Jeff Heitholt, Joe Shanks, Dakota Kindle and Jeff Dornberger.
