MAYWOOD, Mo. -- Donald E. "Don" Johnson, 65, of rural Maywood, died Sunday (May 18, 2014) at his residence. He was born Dec. 22, 1948, in Hannibal, a son of Aaron Edward and Mary Frances Krietemeyer Johnson. Don was a 1967 graduate of Ewing High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 serving in the Vietnam War. He worked at Quincy soybean, was a machine welder at Electric Wheel Co., and worked as a carpenter at Bleigh Construction and also Griesbaum Construction where he retired in December 2013. Don was of the Catholic faith. Don liked spending time and working on his farm. He also enjoyed fishing and doing construction projects and watching or listening to Cardinal ball games and spending time with his family. Survivors include three sisters, Kathryn Sparrow of Canton, Martha (Ed) Olson of Palmyra and Carol (Mark) Johnson of Quincy, Ill.; three brothers, Tom (Sue) Johnson of Durham, Ron (Jennifer) Johnson and Joe (Sonja) Johnson of LaGrange; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Fred Sparrow and Ronnie Sparrow. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, in the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with the Rev. Dewayne Larenson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Ewing.
