James G. "Jim" VanZandt Obituary
LIBERTY, Ill. -- James G. "Jim" VanZandt, 73, of 1915 N. 803rd Lane, Liberty, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday (May 28, 2014) in his home.

Born Oct. 8, 1940, in Quincy, Jim was a son of the late Charles G. Moon (killed in World War II) and Evelyn Montag Moon, who later married J. Albert VanZandt. He and his siblings were then adopted by J. Albert VanZandt. He married Georgia Tenhouse Vollbracht at Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty on Oct. 6, 1978. She survives.

Mr. VanZandt was baptized in Liberty Christian Church and attended Zion Lutheran Church, Liberty. He was a past member of the Quincy Shrine Club and Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 380 AF&AM. Jim was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. He had been a volunteer firefighter and driver for the Adams County Ambulance. He was employed in his early years at Gardner Denver, then became an independent petroleum agent for many years for Hutter Oil Co. and was a security officer for the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy for 10 years before his retirement in 2000.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his two daughters, Marla (Steve) Dietrich of Camp Point and Melissa (Mark) Tenhouse of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Denise (Greg) Wiewel, and a stepson, Terry (Toni) Vollbracht, both of Liberty; his grandchildren, Lacey Tenhouse, Burgundy (Kyle) Hamlin, Justin (Paige) Carl, Dillon (Niover) Wiewel, Brooke Wiewel, Codi Vollbracht and Evan Vollbracht; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Tenhouse, Graceann Carl and Jayden Trimble; his stepmother, Ida VanZandt; three sisters, Norma Larimore, Linda VanZandt and Vicki (Jason) Stice, all of Quincy; a sister-in-law, Sandy VanZandt of Camp Point, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his biological father; his adoptive father; his stepfather, Leon Mann; his mother; a grandson, Bradley Tenhouse; a stepson-in-law, Kent Carl; a brother, Roland VanZandt; a brother-in-law, Dale Larimore; a nephew, Jay VanZandt; and a niece, Lesa Richmiller.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in Zion Lutheran Church with Deacon Pat Monroe conducting. Burial will follow in Xander Cemetery, Liberty.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the church.

MEMORIALS: Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Zion Lutheran Church, or Great River Honor Flight.
