John L. Broeker Obituary
John L. Broeker, 82, of 1530 Manor Hill Drive, Quincy, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday (June 8, 2014) in St. Vincent's Home.

He was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Quincy, the son of John H. and Katherine Frieburg Broeker. On Sept. 22, 1956, he married Joan Adair in Quincy. She survives at the home.

John was a 1950 graduate of Quincy High School. He served in the Illinois National Guard and was activated into the Army during the Korean War. He had worked at Quincy Speaker, and was then employed for 38 years at Gardner-Denver Co. until his retirement in 1993. John enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Herman Lodge No. 39 AF&M, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple, the Quincy Shrine Club and the Mini Mules. He was a member and past worthy patron of Grace Whipple Chapter Order of Eastern Star and was grand representative of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. He had been active as a Rainbow leader, and was a member of American Legion Post No. 37.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Penny Ludwig and her husband, Kenneth, of Quincy; two grandchildren, Sarah Ludwig of Atlanta, Ga., and Andrew (Kathryn) Ludwig of Quincy; and a sister, Catherine Drummond of Quincy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Broeker; and a sister, Florence Attey.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Masonic rites by Herman Lodge No. 39 AF&AM followed by religious services with the Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.

VISITATION: 11:30 a.m. Saturday until time of service in the funeral home
