Shirley Kuhlman, 86, formerly of 1550 Maine, Quincy, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (July 5, 2014) in her daughter's home. Shirley was born June 16, 1928, in Quincy, A daughter of Edmund Francis and Margaret Knox Myers. She married Roy Marvin Kuhlman in April 1954 in the rectory of St. Francis Solanus Church. He died on Dec. 18, 1968. Shirley was a 1945 graduate of Quincy High School. She graduated from Gem City Business College in 1947. In 1961, Shirley moved to Crown Point, Ind., where she would raise her five children, which included two sets of twins, for the next 17 years. In September 1978, she returned to Quincy, where she became the resident manager of the Women's City Club. She held that position for the next 35 years. She remains a lifetime honorary member. Shirley was also a former member of the Atlantis Round Table. She was a great cook, who also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. Most of all, she loved being "Grandma Precious" to her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by five children, Kathy Baker of Quincy, twins Lori (Wes) Holmberg of Spicer, Minn., and Roy Casey (Maura) Kuhlman of Crown Point, and twins Sally (Eric) Ohde of Redding, Calif., and Su Kuhlman of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Quinn Nicole (Gabe Briscoe) Baker of Quincy, Daniel (Stephanie) Baker of Bloomington, Sam Holmberg of Spicer, Haily Holmberg of Spicer, Kevin Kuhlman of Arizona, Corey, Conner and Gracie Kuhlman of Crown Point, Ryan (Melissa) Szymanski of Redding, and Zachary Kuhlman Pfeiffer of Quincy; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Myers of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edmund Thomas "Tom" Myers; a sister, Adele Helmer; and a son-in-law, Thomas Baker. SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, with prayers held at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. MEMORIALS:
