HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Dorothy Marie Epperson Allensworth, 97, of Hannibal, passed away at 10:06 a.m. Sunday (July 6, 2014) in Hannibal Regional Hospital. She was born May 28, 1917, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, a daughter of Mary Etna and Charles Quinlin Epperson. She married Clifford Harold Allensworth Sr. in 1937. He died April 18, 1995. Dorothy worked as a commercial artist for Western Publishing in Hannibal for several years. She was active in Lighthouse Chapter 194, O.E.S. where she served as past worthy matron of the chapter. She was multi-talented, an artist and seamstress and loved to cook. Dorothy and Clifford were avid square dancers with several groups during their retirement in Harlingen, Texas. They also loved traveling and visited all 50 states, plus international travel. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hannibal. Survivors include two daughters, Scharon Pettitt of Hannibal and Wanda Pauley (Jerry) of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one brother, Bob Epperson (Marge), of Payson, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Epperson of Chino Valley, Ariz., and George Ann Epperson of Quincy, Ill.; six grandsons, Tom Pettitt of Quincy, Jeff Pettitt of Palmyra, Mike Pettitt (Michelle), Pat Pettitt (Lisa) and Larry Pettitt (Rose), all of Hannibal and David Pauley of Marietta, Ga.; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Allensworth was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Harold Allensworth Jr.; a son-in-law, Donald Pettitt; five brothers; and two sisters. SERVICES: 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, in the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, Hannibal, with Pastor David Scott conducting. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff Pettitt, Mike Pettitt, Pat Pettitt, Larry Pettitt and David Pauley. Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Pettitt, Christopher Pettitt and Terry Pettitt.
