Margery "Jane" Miller, 83, of 2213 Cherry Lane Estates East, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday (May 18, 2014) in the Good Samaritan Home. Jane was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Quincy, a daughter of Andrew Kley and Esther Giese Miller. Jane was a graduate of Quincy High School. In 1952, she received a bachelor of arts degree from Grinnell College and a master of arts degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois in 1953. She was the fourth generation of her family to become a member of Union United Methodist Church, joining the church in 1942. She had served as a United Methodist missionary in Argentina, 1953-56, and in Chile, 1958-93, returning to Quincy in 1993 and retiring in 1994. She received the Valiant Woman Award from the Church Women United on Sept. 7, 2012. Jane was a volunteer in the church and in the community. She was an active member of Christian Women United, the American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters and the YWCA. She also volunteered at Sunset Home and Good Samaritan Home, and mentored students and families with the Spanish and English language. She joined RSVP in January 1994 and logged 11,245 hours of volunteering. She was also active working with Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. Survivors include a brother, Frank C. (Cynthia Cone) Miller, of Minneapolis, Minn.; three nieces; four nephews; eight grandnieces; and four grandnephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents.
