Francis "Harold" Welsh, 92, of Peoria, died at 12:56 a.m. Monday (July 28, 2014) in UnityPoint-Methodist Emergency Room. Harold was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Adams County, Liberty Township, to Elmer J. and Mary Ellen Henderson Welsh. He married Virginia M. Nickels on Nov. 15, 1952, in St. John Catholic Church in Peoria. She survives. Harold was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Europe and attaining the rank of corporal. He began his career as an auditor at Standard Oil Co., where he worked for 30 years. He later worked for the Peoria County Treasurer's Office as a clerk for 10 years. Harold was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he volunteered and was active in its Men's Club. He was also a member of the Catholic Dartball League, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a Third Degree Honorary lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Council 4333. He is also survived by two sons, Richard (Tina) Welsh of Bartonville and Michael (Jennifer) Welsh of Peoria; five grandchildren, Rachael, Jessica, Adam, Holly and Henry; his sister-in-law, Joan Kamin, of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Welsh, who died in a Prisoner of War Camp during World War II; and his brother-in-law, James Kamin. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass Thursday, July 31, in St. Mark Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, and 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 31, both in the church. MEMORIALS: St. Mark Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
