SHELBINA, Mo. -- Hazeldene Hawkins, 105, of Shelbina, formerly of 2300 Madison, Quincy, Ill., died at 5:58 a.m. Friday (Aug. 1, 2014) in Salt River Community Care in Shelbina. She was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Bethel, a daughter of Julius Philip and Fredericka Marie Keller Steinbach. On July 24, 1937, she married Weldon R. Hawkins in Shelbina. He died Oct. 4, 1993. She graduated from high school in Bethel in 1927. She moved to Quincy in November 1990 from Bethel. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women of Hannibal-Kirksville District, and held officer positions in both until moving to Quincy. Hazeldene was a member of the Bethel Hebron Cemetery Association when it organized in 1965, and served as a member of the board and as president. She was an active member of the Law Belles, the auxiliary of the Cattlemen's Association. She farmed with her husband until their retirement. Survivors include two nephews raised in her home, Charles Beckett of Arlington, Texas, and Herbert Beckett of Atchison, Kan.; two other nephews; and a niece. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Irene Beckett and Leah Mae Trenhaile. SERVICES: 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in Shelbina United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Shelbina City Cemetery. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday Aug. 7, in the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home, Shelbina. MEMORIALS:
