George W. Saylor, 88, of Quincy, formerly of Ewing, Mo., and Pike County, Ill., passed away Wednesday evening (Aug. 6, 2014) in Sunset Home in Quincy. George was born in Pittsfield on Nov. 18, 1925, a son of George Francis and Thelma Willard Saylor. He married Mary Frances Merrill on Aug. 10, 1985, in Bastrop, Texas. Mary died Aug. 31, 2010. George was a longtime cattle buyer and owned Saylor Trucking, operating west of Pittsfield. He attended the Monticello Methodist Church and was a past member of Moose Lodge. He is survived by a daughter, Elaine (James) Ortman of Oxford, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ortman; a brother, Don (Jeanne) Saylor of Inverness, Fla.; sisters, June (Clay) Yelliott of Quincy, and Jean (Morris) Akers of Elkhart, Ill.; in addition to caregiver and special friend, Barbara Rodhouse; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin "Bud" Saylor and a sister, Dorothy Kriegshauser. SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. VISITATION: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. MEMORIALS: West Cemetery or American Diabetes Foundation.
