PALMYRA, Mo. -- Alexandra "Alix" Cathryn Ynez Carpenter, 44, of Palmyra, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 14, 2014) in her home. Alix was born July 22, 1970, in San Francisco, to Michael and Rosemarie Hlad Carpenter. She married Daniel Melancon on Nov. 19, 1999. Alix's family moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and then to Baton Rouge, La. She moved to Palmyra in 2000. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University (B.S., M.S., Baton Rouge) and Texas A&M University (Ph.D., College Station). She had served as the University of Missouri Extension regional agronomist since 2000. Among many other things, Alix was a loving mother, a caring friend and an exceptional colleague. Her beauty, poise, dignity and strength of character will live on in all who were touched by her. Alix is survived by her sons, Augustus and Jacob, and their father, Daniel Melancon, of Palmyra; her mother, Rosemarie Carpenter of Palmyra; her father, Michael Carpenter of Baton Rouge; a sister, Rachel Salinas of San Antonio; a nephew, Roy Salinas of San Antonio; and an aunt, Linda Carpenter of West Brookfield, Mass. Alix was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather from 5 to 6 p.m Sunday, Aug. 17, in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra.
