Rita Anne Freiburg, 89, of 1507 Jackson, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday (Aug. 18, 2014) in her home.

She was born July 27, 1925, in Independence, Iowa, a daughter of William and Anna Sorenson Toomey. She married Harold "Red" Freiburg on Aug. 16, 1947. He died July 22, 2003.

Rita was a graduate of Scranton High School, Scranton, Iowa. She worked at Gardner Denver and at Quincy High School.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was an early member of Cursillo, Birthright and the Altar Society.

Rita was an avid reader. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery work. She loved attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Rita was dedicated to loving her family, home and faith.

She is survived by five children, Theresa A. Meyer and her husband, Jack, of St. Peters, Mo., Barbara M. Sibbing and her husband, Ronald, of Quincy, Sandra K. Freiburg of St. Louis, John H. Freiburg of Quincy and David P. Freiburg and his wife, Kimberly, of High Ridge, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, Bryce (Andrea) Meyer, Ryan (Kym) Meyer, Angela (Matthew) Seydel, Joshua (Julie) Meyer, Jordan (fiancee, Theresa) Meyer, Corinne (Bryan) Koetters, Kimberly (Tom) Strieker, Richard (April) Sibbing, Karen (Troy) Ormond, Jayne (Chad) Collier, Michael Sibbing, Sean Freiburg, Ryan Freiburg, Nicholas Freiburg, Anna Freiburg and Jacob Freiburg; 19 great-grandchildren, Paige and Lily Seydel, Grant and Anna Meyer, Audrey and Benjamin Meyer, Samantha, Emily and Elizabeth Strieker, Amelia and Brady Koetters, Augustus, Wesley and Sophia Sibbing, Allison, Whitney and Elliott Ormond and Avril and Noveli Collier; sisters, Mary Wester and Lila Jeffries; brothers-in-law, Arthur Freiburg and Maurice Deters; and sister-in-law, Cindy Baker. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband, Red, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Toomey.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in the funeral home.
