Charles G. Schmitt, 91, of Quincy, with the loving care of his companion Mary Summers, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Oct. 4, 2009) in Blessing Hospital. He was born on March 26, 1918, in Quincy, a son of Laurentius A. and Florentius W. Menke Schmitt. He married Dorothy M. Moller on Sept. 27, 1949, in St. Boniface Church in Quincy. She died on Jan. 19, 2002. Charles was a member of St Francis Catholic Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Illinois National Guard, ROTC. Before his retirement in 1986, Charles was the owner of the L.A. Schmitt Dental Lab which had been started by his father. Survivors include two sons, Timothy G. Schmitt (Tina) of Quincy, and Thomas C. Schmitt (Rosalie) of Maumelle, Ark.; two brothers, James L. Schmitt of Metamora and Robert L. Schmitt of Quincy; and two grandchildren, Christopher T. Schmitt and Isabella Schmitt of Maumelle. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy, and a son, Edward B. Schmitt. SERVICES: A private memorial Mass was held in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 37.
