PALMYRA, Mo. -- Andrew "Andy" Joseph Kaiser Jr., 89, died Sunday (June 27, 2010) in his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 9, 1921, on the same homestead, in Marion County, a son of Andrew and Lola Godman Kaiser, one of five children. He married his childhood sweetheart, Martha Louise White Kaiser, on Dec. 2, 1945, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Being married for over 60 years, she preceded him in death. Andy graduated from Palmyra High School and attended the University of Missouri for 1 1/2 years before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served under Gen. Patton in the Army through 1945 being present at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He resumed his life on the family farm with Louise after the war, having six children to keep things interesting. Farm life was basic livestock and grain blended with Butler grain storage sales. Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing while later traveling extensively with his wife. For many years, Andy spent time on the REC board, 21 years as president, Northeast Power board, and Production Credit Association, these being the most passionate part of his community life. He will always be present in the memories of three daughters and a son, Kathy Klauser and her husband, Mike, of Keokuk, Iowa, Margaret Hayes and her husband, Mike, of Quincy, Ill., Andrea Kaiser of Columbia and Andrew Kaiser of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Kristi Lynn Estes of Denver, Colo., Lindsay Taylor of Savannah, Ga., Emily Brashear of Springfield, Ill., Andrew Pontius of Kansas City, Joseph Pontius of St. Joseph, Christy Kesseman of Clarksdale, Anna Kaiser of Quincy, Shawn Klauser of Albuquerque, N.M, and Nate Klauser of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eileen Kaiser Rouse and Catherine Kaiser; and a brother, Bill Kaiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia; and two daughters, Carol Jean Kaiser Pontius, and Anne Louise Kaiser Special thank you as caregivers during his home care to Connie Hagerty, Robin Bock, Jackie Holt, Emily Spurgeon, Betty Bates, Sherry Rhoades, Jesse Elliot, Brittany Smith, Brandy Sturgeon and Rachel Schrock SERVICES: 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra, with the Rev. Roger Selves conducting. Burial with military rite will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Palmyra. Pallbearers are Joseph Pontius, Christy Pontius Keesaman, Andrew Pontius, Shawn Klauser, Nate Klauser, Kristi Hayes Estes, Lindsay Hayes Taylor, and Emily Hayes Brashear. Honorary bearers are Anna Kaiser, Bill Kaiser, Bob Baker, Bill Bock, Randy Hopson and Ron Kesner. VISITATION: 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the funeral home.
